Make your personal preparations
Before you get into the coast guard base, there are certain personal things you need to prepare. One of such things is to get your body in top shape. Expect that you will be doing lots of heavy physical activities once at the base, thus you need to get your body prepared to handle the stresses. Do lots of running, push-ups and swimming activities because these are mostly the physical activities you will definitely be doing. Another thing is to also prepare for your payroll and where you will be depositing them. Open a new bank account for this with ATM and don’t forget to bring with you to base the information pertaining to it. In addition, you might also want to study about the US coast guard, its history, the ranks of the officers and enlisted personnel. And although you will be given a haircut at the base, it is also best to get there with a conservative haircut already.
Apply and complete the requirements
Apply at the coast guard base and complete all the requirements they will ask from you. These would include attending the interviews, passing the examinations and background checks, among others.
Take hold of the list for items you can bring
Take hold of the list from the coast guard that will inform you of the things that you can bring to Boot Camp. Make sure that you will be taking along with you only those items in the list for the rest will be confiscated.
Know how to address your officers
Address your officers and everyone else at the base with “Sir” or “Ma’am”, and never attempt to say anything unless you are being spoken to.
And finally, the one last important thing you should bring with you to base is the right attitude.
